Ward
Alexander Scott Mill Complex
711 Concord Road

“In the village of Ward, in addition to the creamery, there was a general grocery and drygoods store, a grist mill, a hardware store with building supplies, lumber and coal yard, a blacksmith shop and a wheelwright shop for making and repairing carriages, buggies and wagons” (Hannum, p. 31).
The Alexander Scott Mill Complex in Ward was once a local industry and shopping site. Alexander Scott and his son Norris Scott operated a grist and lumber mill beginning in the 1870s. The area grew to include a general store, a post office, the Concordville railroad station, and other smaller stores. The building on the right of the 1924 photograph burned down in the late 1930s. It was immediately rebuilt and is now used as the popular Il Granaio restaurant.
