“If I was up and dressed in time in the morning, and I usually was, Father took me to the creamery, in the village Ward, a mile away … the creamery was a fascinating place … During the 1890s, the principal product of the Sharpless Creamery was butter of high quality, sold extensively to hotels and restaurants in Philadelphia under the trade name ‘Sharpless Giltedge Butter’” (Hannum, p. 30).

The bridge over Webb Creek (Concord Creek and Ward Run) is seen from a vantage on the Pennock E. Sharpless House property. Pennock Sharpless was a dairy entrepreneur and founder of the P.E. Sharpless Company, which had a butter and cream cheese creamery in Ward. His company was eventually sold to Kraft in the 1920s. The bridge still exists today and upholds Concord Road and its endless traffic.
