Our Old Springhouse
300 Block of Concord Road along an offshoot of Green’s Creek / location estimated

“A long handled tin drinking cup hung on a nail beside the door. But I enjoyed getting a drink of the cool water on a hot summer day from a gourd or a cup made from half of a coconut shell” (Hannum, p. 17).
The Delaware County Republican described the Overfield property in 1844 as having “two spring houses over excellent springs of water.” Both the 1870 and 1892 maps of Concord Township show the springhouse located on a small branch of Green’s Creek in the field directly behind Overfield. While the land around the stream has been developed with multiple houses, the stream remains. The springhouse, unfortunately, does not.
