A Quiet Pool in Our Woods

“When we were old enough to be trusted away from the house out of Mother’s sight, we would spend whole days down in ‘The Woods’ playing in the stream that wound its meandering way through the woods” (Hannum, p. 86).
“The Woods” are located on Joshua Eyre Hannum’s 1952 map of Hannum farms across Concord Road from Overfield.
The stream that cuts through the land tract once known as “The Woods” still exists. However, a quiet neighborhood bordered by the Conchester Highway and Garnet Valley High School sits where many of the trees once stood.
