Del Eyre
Samuel Hannum House
498 Concord Road
“The house is almost square in shape, built of massive stone walls which are plastered on the outside as well as on the inside. The gable at either end extends upward to form a large chimney. An open porch extends across the front and south of the house” (Hannum, p. 3).
The Samuel Hannum House was built c. 1750s-1850s, but the exact date is still being determined. Dr. Joshua Eyre Hannum was born in this house and lived here until 1899. During the 1924 tour, “Uncle” Joshua Eyre Hannum’s (b.1856) farm was known as Dell Eyre. This name was an amalgamation of Hannum’s and his wife’s middle names.
The house is still on 4.52 acres of land today near the busy intersection of Concord and Smithbridge roads.
