The Last Long Hill
Ralph Pyle—E.P. Hannum House
620 Concord Road
“My next sled was a 'Flexible Flyer,' light in weight with a wooden crossbar in front to bend the flexible steel runners in order to steer it. Carrying the sled and making a running start at the top of a hill, the sled was dropped in the snow at the end of the run, then fallen on and ridden 'belly -bumper' down the hill” (Hannum, p. 64).
The Ralph Pyle-Evans P. Hannum House was initially built c. 1699 for Ralph and Eleanor Pyle. This home was eventually replaced with a newer structure. Evans P. Hannum built the present house c. 1820.
Susan Pyle owned the 45-acre property at the time of the 1924 tour. The house and springhouse still stand today on the quiet hill overlooking Concord Road.
