St. John's Chapel
Formerly located across from the present Concordville Fire Station
Demolished
“I must have been quite young when Aunt Lil first started to take me with her to Sunday School …The Rector, the Reverend Joshua Copeland gave a short talk each Sunday to the boys and girls in Sunday School” (Hannum, p. 59).
St. John’s Episcopal Church established a chapel in Concordville c. 1890 along Concord Road across from the present-day firehouse. Its purpose was to serve the community on the other end of Concord Road during inclement weather when traveling up or down the steep hill in Ward would be treacherous. The Concordville Fire Company purchased the chapel in 1942 for $1,200. The old chapel was torn down in the 1960s after the current fire station was constructed. Today, a grassy, open space exists across from the Concordville Fire Station, where the chapel once sat.
