Harvesting

200-500 block of Concord Road / location estimated

HARVESTING.HEIC

“Uncle Joss [Joshua Hannum] and Father, with their farm hands, always did their harvesting together, not only harvesting of the hay, but also, the oats, rye, wheat, alfalfa, and millet” (Hannum, p. 37).

It is not abundantly clear where this photo was taken or who is harvesting, but it could be assumed that the road in the background is Concord Road. Given the photograph was taken between the Thomas Cassin Jr. House and Dell Eyre, the farmland could be between the 200 and 500 blocks of Concord Road.

Today, this area contains homes in succession along Concord Road that back up to the Conchester Highway to the West of Concord Road and various newer developments to the East of Concord Road. There are certainly no large swaths of farmland in this area today.
