Concord School Number Two
#2 School
309 Concord Road

“When I became nine years old in 1899…I then entered Concord Public School No. 2 where Aunt Mary Nelling was appointed teacher that year…I was thoroughly trained in all other elementary subjects then taught in the rural public schools of that region, -- spelling, geography, history, physiology, drawing, poetry, and recitation” (Hannum, p. 89).
The Concord School #2 was built c. 1859 by Robert Barlow for $944 after an earlier 1792 school was torn down. #2 was also known as the Lower School and the Miller’s School.
According to the WPA Survey of the area, the c.1859 #2 school building burned in 1912 and was rebuilt using brick in 1913. The school is extant today and has been converted into a private family residence.
