Green's Creek Above the Mill
427 Valleybrook Road area / location estimated

“The machinery in each mill was driven by a large over-fed water wheel, the water flowing from the race through a wooden sluice above each wheel. It was a thrilling experience to hear the creaking sounds of the wheel and the machinery when the sluice gate was opened and the weight of the water in the troughs around the periphery of the wheel began to turn it” (Hannum, p. 87).
This portion of Green’s Creek is rather large and wide as far as creeks go in the immediate area. The Peters-Johnson Bridge carries Valleybrook Road over this section of the creek. The old Johnson Saw Mill stands quietly alongside the creek, having undergone a complete gutting.
